If you ask me to describe my mom in one word, the first word that would pop up is strength. I grew up hearing everyone refer to my mom as Iron Lady, and I quickly understood why she was given that nickname.
Growing up as a kid, my first interpretation of the words strength and resilience came from observing how my mom took care of me and my siblings and how she constantly fought to make sure we were never ripped off as a family.
I jokingly tell people that I was raised by an army general in the person of my mom because she didn’t take nonsense from us as kids. The army style had its pros and cons, but having our priorities in order came as a result of that. I mean, I’m not without flaws, but values like honesty and integrity are super important to me today because we were taught the relevance of all that growing up, even though sometimes that meant whipping these values into us.
I still remember the one time we both fell off a bike while we were headed to the hospital and how she carried me on her back because I was too sick to walk. As a kid, so many people thought I had sickle cell anaemia because I was always falling sick and I was lean like a stick. My mom would sit beside my sick bed and pray passionately over me. She wasn’t all bossy; she had her soft spot too.
One thing I am most grateful for is that the first independent woman I ever knew was my mom. I don’t think there’s anything momsy can’t do in this life. One time she decided she wanted to kick off her pro barber career, and of course we were her test subjects. Those weeks in school were terrible. That’s just one of the many things mom has attempted; I think I got that from her, dabbling into so many things. It is always a learning experience with mom, whether direct or indirect.
I am grateful to God and super proud to be called the daughter of Mrs. Joy Agboghidi. Happy Birthday, Mummy, and may your days be continually filled with joy and prosperity.
If you can see this, please drop a wish and maybe say a prayer for Mummy. I’ll be sure to screenshot and share on my stories so she can see them. Thank you so much!
